About the Department

The Basic Science Department comprising of departments like physics, chemistry & Mathematics, started in the year 2001. The department has well equipped physics and chemistry labs with all new modern equipments & State of art facilities. The department is having experienced and committed staff members who not only teaches the academics also helps the students in their curricular and Co-curricular activities.

The Department is having a forum in the name of “RLJIT Science Forum” which is a stage for the students to presents their skills and also to get interact with latest treads in the field of Science & Technology.

HoD'S Profile

Dr.ShashikalaA.R, has obtained her Bachelors (BSc) and Master’s degree (MSc, Chemistry) from Bangalore University. She has also received MSc engineering degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She has received PhD degree from Visveswaraya Technological University, Belgaum for the research work “Development of Electrochemical Coatings for Functional Applications” in the year 2010, under the guidance of Dr.A.K.Sharma, Group Director, Thermal Systems group, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore and Prof. Mayanna, Emeritus Professor, Central College, Bangalore University.

Dr.Shashikala A.Rstarted her teaching career in the year 2001, as Lecturer in Chemistry at RLJIT and is currently working as Associate Professor and Head, Allied Sciences. She has about 18 years of Teaching and 5 years of Research experience. She has published 10 papers in peer reviewed National and International Journals and presented/published 12 papers in International and National conferences.He is actively involved in basic and applied research activities.Her research interest is in Development of Corrosion resistant coatings, Synthesis of Bio fuel etc.

Dr.Shashikala A.R has also worked as Convener for 9th Women’s Science congress, held at RLJIT during 5th -7th November 2016.She has worked as Editor in Chief for College Magazine Smruthi-17 & 18, and is also actively involved in other academic work. He is a life member of many scientific and professional bodies.She is also working as AICTE and VTU coordinator from past four years.

  • Dr.Shashikala A.R has given a guest lecture to the participants of Two weeks faculty development programme “Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technology” held at MSRIT between 4th December 2017 to 16th December 2017.
  • Prof. Hemalatha B R attended and presented paper titled “ A Study of Rainwater harvesting for GEC Building, K.R.Pet” in 5th International conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering, Technology, Science and management held on 20th August 2017 at Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers, Bangalore, Karnataka. .
  • Prof. Hemalatha B R Presented Paper titled “A Study of Rainwater harvesting for GEC Building, K.R.Pet” published in International Journal of Advance Research in Science and Engineering, Vol.6, Issue no.8, August 2017. .
  • Prof. Hemalatha B R attended and presented paper titled “ Energy Resources for sustainable Growth and Development” in 4th International conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering, Technology, Science and management held on 16th July 2017 at Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers, Janakpuri, New Delhi, India. .
  • Prof. Hemalatha B R presented Paper titled “Energy Resources for sustainable Growth and Development “published in International Journal of Advance Research in Science and Engineering, Vol.6, Issue no.7, July 2017. .
  • Prof Thirumalesh Presented a paper in an International Conference 'Recent Advances in Material Science and Bio-Physics 2018' (RAMSB-18), titled “Construction and optimization of modified Reddy Shock-tube using open source platforms" on 23rd to 25th Jan 2018 at Mangalore. .
